Change Management, Corporate Communications

Whether you like it or not, corporate communication tools are being delegated to artificial intelligence to help provide instant answers and information to employees and hiring managers in all kinds of industries and businesses. How is AI intersecting with HR?

Artificial intelligence is no longer the future, it’s the present for many companies in many industries. We take AI for granted because many of us have already gotten used to using AI devices such as Amazon’s Alexa or IBM’s Watson, etc. But AI has already invaded HR in meaningful ways, too.

AI Is Changing Corporate Communication Tools

HR communication with employees, prospective employees, managers, and other stakeholders and company personnel is already being done to some degree by digital assistants, commonly known as chatbots, which use algorithms created to simulate human conversation. These chatbots have been employed in recruiting efforts, to answer HR questions, and to personalize learning experience during employee training. Pretty soon there’ll be an algorithm for everything.

The appeal of using AI devices like chatbots for internal and employee communications is that they can provide information at the snap of a finger. They’re always available and they’re getting better at providing exactly what they’re asked for.

AI hasn’t reached the Singularity or Judgement Day yet, it’s simply creating automated systems that can be used to automatically answer questions and bring the right information to the right people at the right time. Investment in artificial intelligence by businesses has increased over the past three years, not because of some nefarious plot to let machines take over the world and use human beings as batteries (okay, I’ll stop with the sci-fi references), but to make sales processes faster and easier for customers.

Those same principles that businesses have been investing in for years—using AI to manage their relationships with customers and provide them with the fastest, easiest answers to their questions. Millennials, especially, expect fast answers when reaching out to any consumer brand or company, but they’re not the only ones. The use of 24/7 chatbots and other automated corporate communication tools have become so widespread that everyone expects fast responses to their questions and concerns.

Huge Potential for AI

The potential for HR managers and other executives in using AI to help with their duties is huge. There will always be a place for face-to-face, human interaction and communication, for many internal communication tasks and for the use and spread of crucial information to all employees, AI is already here to help, if you’ll let it.

The more HR managers accept AI as an addition to their corporate communication toolkit, the better AI will be used to save time, money, and even jobs, not waste or eliminate those things. Many corporations across multiple industries have already embraced AI as a time and resources-saving tool and reaped the benefits. Human resources departments from all kinds of businesses have jumped into the AI party. The more you can embrace it, the better-off your HR department will be now and in the future.
