Employee engagements

The holiday party season is upon us. Here’s how to make your event work for you.

As the workplace evolves, employee communication has to evolve. With all the options available it can be tough to figure out what’s right for your business, so I’ve laid out the best features of my three favorite workplace communication apps so you can decide for yourself.

Whether you like it or not, corporate communication tools are being delegated to artificial intelligence to help provide instant answers and information to employees and hiring managers in all kinds of industries and businesses. How is AI intersecting with HR?

Employee communications solutions try to make communication what it really is—a two-way street. These solutions engage employees and urge them to participate in the communication exchange with management.

Corporate communication tools include the many platforms and systems Human Resources managers and company executives use to help their employees perform at their best and facilitate a web of communication between all workers. These tools can also be used help bridge the soft skills gap that can open in companies of all industries, particularly tech and software development.

Geofencing might be one of the most powerful employee communication tools recruiters can use to reach younger generations of workers for their company.

Editor’s note: We’re doing a short, two-part series on the battle between Facebook’s Workplace and Slack in the internal communications tools realm. Read part one (written by yours truly, the editor) here. Jeff Myhre, an expert in entrepreneurship, Human Resources, and more, gives his take on the Workplace/Slack War based on his experience below:

The great corporate communication tools war is upon us. When Slack entered the marketplace, it changed how corporate communication tools were used in the workplace. It allowed teams to instantly communicate with each other, as well as share files, no matter who worked where. Then Facebook introduced Workplace, drawing some users away from Slack with its ease of use. Which service will be the victor? The answer is complicated.

A new revolution in corporate communications software is emerging steadily and involves an innovation called cloud-based platforms. These platforms are dramatically changing the way companies interact and communicate with their employees.

The benefits of cloud-based corporate communication tools are many. Here are a few you might not know.

Employee engagement tools are changing and becoming more efficient at conveying information by the day. One of the exciting new phenomena sweeping employee communication strategies and HR departments is the digital postcard. How can you use this tool to your advantage?

Running a corporation has, since the days of the East India Trading Company, been a top-down exercise. Management gave orders, and everyone followed them. Whatever employee engagement surveys and corporate communications tools there might have been were largely seen as human resources activities designed to let employees vent, sort of a suggestion/complaint box on a grander scale. As a result, huge opportunities from a business improvement standpoint went sailing by.

Corporate communication tools come in all shapes and sizes. Many are cloud-based, allowing your employees to access their hubs and use them to reach the entire organization. Managers can use these portals to train employees, recognize employees, drive benefits enrollment, and much more, even with remote employees in a large organization.

Employee video communications using “digital video postcards” has been shown to improve overall employee engagement. The data collected and reported in Flimp Communications 2017 Employee Video Communications Report, proves it. Why are these campaigns so successful?

Internal employee communications is all about the proper training to get everyone on the same page.

If your employee engagement indicators have taken a dip recently, perhaps you’re not asking the right survey questions. Company executives too often get positive responses on their employee engagement surveys but find other indicators of employee engagement, like overall morale and productivity, sagging. You need employee engagement survey questions that get to the heart of the issues and provide useful metrics to guide your employee engagement strategy.

American author Robert Lee Fulghum is best known for a book he created entitled All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. The book’s title is from the first essay and poem in the volume, which was published in 1986. The author lists the lessons normally learned in American kindergarten classrooms, and he reflects upon how the world would be improved if adults adhered to the same basic rules as children. Those rules? They include listening, sharing and living a life that balances work and play. We’re now seeing those principles in employee communications systems and HR training
